Practical information

The Marc Chagall national Museum, created during the artist's lifetime, houses the masterly cycle of the Biblical Message. It bears witness to the great diversity of the painter's artistic practices. Paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, ceramics as well as stained glass, tapestry and mosaics, constitute a unique body of work where technical virtuosity, colourful inventions and a universal message of peace are combined.

Opening hours

Open every day except Tuesdays, 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.

From 1 November to 30 April: 10am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5pm. The museum may close at 4.30pm on certain days.                                                                                                

From 2 May to 31 October: 10am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 6pm. Exceptionally, the museum may close at 5.30pm on certain days.
The garden and bookshop remain accessible during the lunch break.                                                                                                                                             

Some rooms may be closed on certain days. Please refer to the notice board at the museum entrance on the day in question. 

Ticket sales stop 30 minutes before the museum closes. Evacuation of the museum rooms begins 15 minutes before the doors close. Thank you for your understanding. 

End-of-year period
On 24 and 31 December, the eve of the festive season, the museum closes at 4pm instead of 5pm (except Tuesday, when it is closed for the week). The ticket office is open until 3.30pm.

Meridian closures: In January and February, meridian closures will take place every day from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

By tram: no. 1, Gare Thiers stop, then a 15-minute walk to the museum

Prices outside the exhibition period:

NB: Admission prices will be adjusted according to the number of rooms open in the museum.

Free admission :
- on the 1st Sunday of the month, for all
- teachers (current Education Pass)
- recipients of certain minimum social benefits
- under-26s (members of the European Union)
- disabled civilians or military personnel, with one accompanying adult per person, on presentation of the Mobility Inclusion Card (CMI), marked "Invalidité" (disabled) and sub-marked "Besoin d'accompagnement - cécité" (blind) (or similar if foreign); or marked "Priorité" (priority).

New visiting conditions

Following the attack on 13 October 2023 in Arras and recent events in the Middle East, the VIGIPIRATE plan has now been raised to the "Urgence attentat" level throughout France. To ensure the safety of visitors, the Marc Chagall National Museum is applying the preventive measures decided by the government for public administrations. Your bags and personal belongings will be systematically searched on entering the museum. The entire team at the Musée national Marc Chagall would like to thank its visitors for their attention and cooperation.

Reception of groups

For people coming to visit the museum in groups, with their own guide, the number of people is limited, in compliance with current sanitary standards. Reservations are required.

The Tourism Quality Mark

In January 2019, the musée national Marc Chagall was awarded the Tourism Quality mark for the first time. The aim of this mark is to better understand the needs of the public and meet their expectations in terms of welcome and services, and to find out their points of satisfaction and dissatisfaction, in order to win their loyalty or win them over in advance.

During the summer of 2023, the museum took part in the renewal of the Tourism Quality mark.

The visitor regulations of the museum

 The purpose of the visitor regulations is to inform visitors of the conditions for visiting the Marc Chagall National Museum. They are intended to ensure the safety of people, the preservation of the premises and collections and the quality of the visit. They apply to all visitors to the museum as well as to persons and groups authorised to occupy the premises temporarily for meetings, receptions or various events.

All photographers

In recent years, photography and filming in museums and monuments has become a common phenomenon that is often extended to social networks. The Ministry of Culture wanted to support the institutions and visitors' associations in the design of a charter of understanding that sets out the main rules for visiting and sharing culture in the digital age. This charter is likely to inspire other ministries, local authorities and the entire network of cultural structures in the heritage field.
