A childhood with Marc Chagall.

Reading of extracts from David McNeil's novel by the Théâtre national de Nice

A special programme to mark the 50th anniversary of the Marc Chagall national Museum.

"I would simply like to talk about the intense moments I spent with my father, Marc Chagall, this man of many facets whom the whole world often called 'Master' but whom I simply called 'Dad', and without any chronology, let alone any historical pretensions, to share these all too rare and precious memories, these moments of joy, these enchanted hours that I was able to spend with this loving father, this poet-magician, this mystical worker in our dream factory."
David McNeil

In this revised, expanded and illustrated edition, David McNeil shows for the first time little-known paintings and drawings by Marc Chagall from his personal collection. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Marc Chagall national Museum and the enlarged and illustrated new edition of David McNeil's novel, son of the artist, published by Gallimard (2022), the museum is organising a special meeting with the author, in the form of a reading of extracts from his novel by actress Ève Pereur, from the Théâtre national de Nice.
The reading will be accompanied by a book signing by the author, David McNeil.

David McNeil is a singer-songwriter, lyricist, novelist and author of children's and young people's literature. He was born on 22 June 1946 in the Bronx, New York (USA). He has lived in France, Belgium, the UK and Monaco since 1949, and became a naturalised American in 1966. After describing his childhood with his father in his book Quelques pas dans les pas d'un ange, David McNeil published Tangage et roulis in 2006, published by Gallimard. 28, boulevard des Capucines, also published by Gallimard in 2012, is a book of memories, evoking his childhood and the encounters of his life as an artist: Yves Montand, Laurent Voulzy, Robert Charlebois, etc.

After training at the Conservatoire de Cergy-Pontoise, Ève Pereur joined ERACM (École Régionale d'Acteurs de Cannes-Marseille) from 2016 to 2019. She attended acting courses with Annie Mercier, David Lescot, Richard Sammut and Catherine Germain, and took part in productions for the school by Gurshad Shaheman, Emma Dante, Christophe Hocké and Aurélien Desclozeaux. Since the start of the 2020 academic year, she has been an actress with the Théâtre national de Nice (TNN), under the direction of Muriel Mayette-Holtz.
