On July 7, 1973, the national museum dedicated to the works of Marc Chagall opened in Nice. Marc Chagall himself was born on July 7, 1887, in Vitebsk, Belarus. The Friends of the Museum association was established alongside the museum and has always celebrated these two anniversaries. This year, in 2023, the celebrations are even more significant as we commemorate the 50th anniversary!
On this occasion, Magasin du Café will be giving a special concert paying tribute to Astor Piazzolla, an Argentine bandoneon player considered one of the greatest composers of the 20th century for tango music and the Tango Nuevo style.
Magasin du Café is a musical whirlwind where multiple musical inspirations blend together: classical, jazz, rock, and world music. Their voices and rhythms are primarily a tribute to Sardinia, where the "Shardana" sea was once inhabited by seafaring peoples who traveled from the Baltic to Egypt and Zimbabwe, unrestricted by barriers or borders. This music speaks of ancient traditions, when the far North mingled with the East, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea. The sounds are exotic but without geographic connotations, shamanic chants from the Americas and Africa become modern, Celtic reminiscences intersect with electronic beats, all within a healing and spectacular trance that carries both musicians and the audience away.
