The story of Babar, the little elephant

Between 1940 and 1946, Francis Poulenc composed music to illustrate the first adventure of little Babar, which was later orchestrated by Jean Françaix. The composer Thierry Muller has created a lighter orchestration (strings, flute, clarinet, percussion and two pianos), presented here with the students of the Nice Conservatoire.

Text : Jean de Brunhoff
Reciter : Zoé Fouray

Zoé Fouray, chanteuse, récitante, photo : DRZoé Fouray began practicing classical dance and theatre at a very early age, followed by music (classical guitar, piano) and choir practice from the age of 10 at the Conservatoire du 9e arrondissement de Paris. At the age of 11, Zoé joined the Maîtrise de Radio France. There she received a very complete training and took part in prestigious productions. Being so close to the world of classical music encouraged her to turn to the opera. After five years with Radio France, she joined the Département Supérieur pour Jeunes Chanteurs and the Jeune Chœur de Paris. At the age of 19, she obtained her DEM in opera singing unanimously.
At the same time, she entered a specialised class in musical training and Richard Wilberforce's introductory class in choral conducting at the CRR in Paris, and continued her practice of various styles of dance and yoga. Teaching is central to her approach to art music and Zoé teaches singing, piano, music education and literature. She also teaches choral singing in primary schools.
