Journey to Lithuania

This evening concert will be an opportunity for the general public to discover five Lithuanian composers. The musicians of the Orchestre philharmonique de l'Opéra de Nice have chosen pieces that are rarely performed: these musical pieces will take you on a road trip to Lithuania, crossing Switzerland, Germany and Norway.

At the same time, other better-known European composers will be in the spotlight, including Edvard Grieg, Johannes Brahms and Michael Jarrell. And to make this concert evening even more authentic, two musicians of Lithuanian origin will be performing on stage!

  • Valentinas Bagdonas (1929-2009), Melody for solo birbynė (1977)
  • Vaida Striaupaitė (b. 1977), Beinarienė "Per girią girelę" (Through the forest), for birbynė and piano (2012)
  • Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis (1875-1911), Prelude "Vakariniai varpai" (Evening Bells), for bass clarinet and piano (1901)
