Summer activities in July/August
NEW - ‘Create your own comic strip’ workshop
Marc Chagall painted pictures that can be read like comic strips, presenting several episodes of the same story. In his ‘Biblical Message’ series, he
recounts historical narratives whilst weaving in moments from his own life. Just like him, have fun creating a comic strip to tell a fantastical story, inspired by his great paintings, populated by hybrid characters and set in a magical world straight from your imagination.
Young and old alike can create their own comic strip page, using cut-out paper, fabric, felt-tip pens, pastels and coloured pencils.

NEW - ‘Theatrical Pop-up’ Workshop
Just as Marc Chagall created the sets and costumes for the characters in *The Firebird*, design your own theatrical scene on a pop-up. Imagine a set featuring whimsical motifs – forests, towns, flowers – or inspired by Chagall’s works. To complete your set, you can add characters, plants and animals, which will stand out in relief and bring your creation to life. Let your imagination run wild; the elements you’ve added will overlap and rise up in 3D on your pop-up.
This activity, suitable for young and old alike, involves using card, fabric, felt-tip pens, pastels and coloured pencils to create your own design.
Dates in July at 2.30 pm:

Workshop: “Create your own musical ceiling”
Discover Marc Chagall’s many works for the world of opera and ballet: sets, costumes and preparatory sketches for the famous commission for the ceiling of the Opéra Garnier in Paris! Drawing inspiration from this collection of works (drawings, collages and paintings), let your imagination run wild and design your own musical ceiling featuring your favourite music: rap, rock, disco, K-pop, slam poetry and more. Don’t forget to include a few landmarks linked to your life, such as where you live or your favourite holiday destination. Young and old alike can use cut-out paper, fabric, printed words, felt-tip pens or even pencils to create their design.
- Monday 17 August, 2.30–4.00 pm ‘Create your own musical ceiling’
“Opera Costume” Workshop
Marc Chagall collaborated with the world of opera and ballet: as well as designing stage sets, he also created the costumes for *The Firebird* and *Daphnis and Chloe*.
Just like him, give free rein to your imagination and create fantastical, magical costumes for your own opera or ballet. Create characters with human or animal heads, inspired by Chagall’s hybrid creatures, dressed in colourful garments with generous silhouettes or removable elements. Don’t forget to add original and whimsical headdresses.
Young and old alike can bring their creations to life using cut-out paper, fabric, felt-tip pens or even pencils.
Dates in July at 2.30 pm:

Ongoing Exhibition
These new activities are on offer to families to mark the current exhibition *Chagall at Work: An Exceptional Loan*.
It will run in two parts: from 7 February to 17 May 2026 (Part 1), then from 23 May to 21 September 2026 (Part 2)
The exhibition presents the 141 works on loan from Marc Chagall’s granddaughters, Bella and Meret Meyer, to the National Museum of Modern Art, Centre Georges Pompidou. First shown in Paris in 2023–2024, the collection is now on display at the Marc Chagall National Museum, where it is presented in two parts.
This exhibition is organised around four thematic groups: the sketches and models for the ceiling of the Opéra Garnier, the stage curtains and costumes for the ballet *The Firebird*, the ceramics and sculptures, and finally the collages. It highlights Marc Chagall’s involvement in large-scale commissions and his ceaseless curiosity, particularly through the diversification of his artistic practices between the 1950s and 1970s.
