The Transport des Forces moves at the Léger museum !

from May 19th 2021
Musée national Fernand Léger

As from 2021, the Fernand Léger national Museum presents a major work of exceptional dimensions (4.90 m high by 8.70 m long): Le Transport des Forces.

Painted by Fernand Léger in 1937, on the occasion of the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques in Paris, this monumental painting was commissioned by the State, originally intended to decorate the Palais de la Découverte.

A veritable hymn to the harmonious alliance of artistic creativity and technological innovation, Le Transport des Forces praises the electrical energy resulting from a process of transformation of natural forces. Produced in collaboration with his students in the context of the Popular Front, this painting marks a turning point in Léger's approach: he deepened his reflection on the place of color in modern architecture and became the promoter of a social art, inscribed in the public space. With this work, the beauty of mural painting is now offered to the public eye.

Assigned to the Centre national des arts plastiques in Paris, Le Transport des Forces is put on permanent loan for five years at the Fernand Léger national Museum. Visitors are invited to discover this masterpiece, exhibited for the first time at the Léger Museum, thanks to a specific program (lectures, projections) highlighting the unique and allegorical character of this emblematic painting.
