Pierrick Sorin, Pierrick on the Moon - mission II
at the Hôtel Windsor, Nice
For the 9th edition of OVNi, the international video art festival, the Musée national Fernand Léger presents Pierrick Sorin's video Pierrick on the Moon - mission II at the Hôtel Windsor, echoing his exhibition Le Balai mécanique, as part of the Parcours hôtels du festival OVNi.
In response to the cosmic theme of the Ovni 2023 festival, The Whisper of the stars, Pierrick Sorin will don his astronaut outfit to project himself into space from the intimacy of a room at the Windsor Hotel! Like an uncomfortable Neil Armstrong in a lunar landscape, he'll try to move around, defying the laws of weightlessness and juggling floating objects.
Created in 2019, this new poetic-burlesque installation by Pierrick Sorin consists of a sequence on a vintage TV set, which imitates the random quality of historical documentary films, and a monumental projection revealing the tricks of this lunar juggling exercise. The whole set-up plays with the illusion of images and stages the simulacrum of their making. A cinematic reference to the visual magic of Georges Méliès's Voyage dans la lune, Pierrick Sorin was also interested in "the Apollo missions [...], which provide some playful metaphors for the deceptive power of images".
Presented at the Musée national Fernand Léger until January 29, 2024, Pierrick Sorin's immersive and spectacular video fresco Le Balai mécanique is part of the UFO Festival's Cities itinerary. For further information
