Elsa Dorlin is a philosopher; since 2021, she has been professor of contemporary political philosophy in the philosophy department at Toulouse Jean Jaurès University and co-director of the ERRAPHIS research team. In 2004, she defended her dissertation in philosophy entitled "Au chevet de la Nation : sexe, race et médecine : XVIIe-XIXe siècles" at the Université Paris-Sorbonne. From 2005 to 2011, she was a lecturer in the history of philosophy and the history of science at the Philosophy Department of Panthéon-Sorbonne University. 

Her research focuses on feminist philosophies, gender and sexuality studies, slavery, colonialism and post-colonialism (history of ideas, struggles and movements in black diasporas, Black feminism). But also the history and philosophy of medicine (body, health, nation) linked to modern sexist and racist theories. In 2009, she was awarded the bronze medal of the CNRS (section 35) for her work on philosophy, gender and feminist epistemology.

In 2006, Elsa Dorlin published La Matrice de la race. Généalogie sexuelle et coloniale de la Nation française (based on her history of philosophy thesis); Sexe, genre et sexualités. Introduction à la théorie féministe and Black Feminism. Anthologie du féminisme africain-américain, in 2008. Her latest book, Se défense. Une philosophie de la violence, published by Zones in 2017, received the Caribbean Philosophical Association's Frantz Fanon Prize in 2018 and the Social Writing Prize in 2019.

This event is co-organised with the Villa Arson, Nice. 

This programme of lectures is a co-production of UCArts - Direction de la Culture d'Université Côte d'Azur and the National Museums of the 20th Century in the Alpes-Maritimes. The six conferences are organised in partnership with the Association of the Friends of the Marc Chagall national Museum. 

The programme has been put together by the museum in collaboration with Josiane Rieu, professor of 16th-century French literature at the Université Côte d'Azur and member of the CTEL, Centre Transdisciplinaires d'Epistémologie de la Littérature et des Arts Vivants.
