"Krzysztof Penderecki is one of the greatest composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. An extraordinary musical and historical career. Alongside the man who became a legend in his own lifetime, both in Poland (it's unimaginable in France for a national composer to be so famous!) and throughout the world, there was a simple, generous, humanist man. Along with the friends present this evening, we had the privilege and the good fortune to rub shoulders with him often, in concerts, in recordings, in his homes in Krakow and Luslawice.

He created a large family around him, from the youngest performers he loved to introduce to the most famous international soloists and conductors. For his 60th birthday, I was able to fulfil my dream of inviting to the Pablo Casals Festival the man whose work I admired, and not just his clarinet pieces...
He came to Prades so naturally, always available to listen to students, teachers and the public, and renewed his residency for several years.
This is the man we'd like you to get to know better, by showing the wonderful film Paths through the Labyrinth, which its director, Anna Schmidt, has generously allowed us to present this evening, and by playing his miniatures, to which he devoted a very special affection".

Michel Lethiec, clarinettist.
