European Heritage Days 2026

For this 43^rd edition, the European Heritage Days are highlighting the theme of “endangered heritage” by showcasing the challenges of preserving works of art and the key principles behind this effort.

At the Marc Chagall National Museum, this theme takes on a very special significance: how can we preserve, pass on, and bring to life works that stand the test of time? How can archives help us rediscover a forgotten past? And how can we breathe new life into the images and memories that make up our heritage?

Throughout the weekend, the museum is offering a unique program exploring these issues through lectures, guided tours, creative workshops for children, and a behind-the-scenes look at conservation efforts.

LECTURE: “How can archives breathe new life into a forgotten artifact?”

A journey into the past led by Isabelle le Bastard, archivist at the Marc Chagall Museum, accompanied by screenings of concert excerpts from Chagall’s era.

COLLAGE WORKSHOPS: BRINGING FORGOTTEN IMAGES BACK TO LIFE

Collage workshop using flyers from past exhibitions at our three museums. Give these images a second life!

GUIDED TOURS

Guided tour: “How to Preserve Cultural Heritage?” from the perspective of art conservation with Grégory Couderc, curator of the Marc Chagall National Museum, and his intern Manon Buia.

Learn about the conservation of artworks and discover the museum in a new light. This two-part tour combines a presentation of the exhibition with an explanation of the challenges of preservation. An opportunity to understand the essential principles of heritage preservation.
