Chagall and Me! 50 years of the Chagall Museum
In 2023, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Marc Chagall national Museum with joy and colour. Inaugurated by the artist on his birthday, July 7, 1973, the museum, or rather the house that Chagall wanted to house the cycle of the Biblical Message, still carries a powerful universal message today:
"From my earliest youth I have been captivated by the Bible. It has always seemed to me, and still seems to me, that it is the greatest source of poetry of all time. […] The world is for me like a great desert in which my soul wanders like a torch, I made these paintings in unison with this distant dream. I wanted to leave them in this House so that people could try to find a certain peace, a certain spirituality, a religiosity, a meaning of life." 1
To celebrate this generous gift, made 50 years ago, the exhibition Chagall and Me! invites contemporary personalities (artists, writers, dancers, musicians, etc.) to share their contemporary reading of these paintings. This Chagall and Me! exhibition will reveal many surprises and will be accompanied by a rich programme that will culminate on the weekend of 7 July 2023, the anniversary of Marc Chagall and the museum !
