The Chagall Museum member of the Plein Sud network

The visual arts network of the South of France

The Marc Chagall National Museum is a member of the Plein Sud network

Born in the spring of 2020 from the will of the main actors of visual arts in the South of France to federate in order to promote the exceptional richness of the contemporary art offer on the territory, the Plein Sud network reflects the spirit of union of 71 contemporary art places from Sérignan-Sète to Nice-Monaco.

The Plein Sud network exists today in the form of a paper guide, which invites each summer the public of all horizons to discover the program from June to October of the 71 places members of the network. The network also has a website, offering an immersion in the experience of contemporary art throughout the year. The pleinsud.art website will lead you to a multiplicity of artistic paths and places with remarkable heritage and architecture, in the heart of large cities in the south of France (Avignon, Montpellier, Marseille or Nice), villages and mythical ports of Provence (Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Toulon-Hyères, Vallauris...), on islands with protected environments (Iles du Levant, Porquerolles) or in the mountains (Digne-les-Bains or Embrun). The Chagall Museum, a place of discovery and exhibition of today's artists

Since the early 2000s, the Musée National du XXe Siècle des Alpes-Maritimes has placed contemporary creation at the heart of its artistic and cultural project, working on the points of encounter and extension between the three tutelary and emblematic figures of the artistic avant-garde, Marc Chagall (1887-1985), Fernand Léger (1881-1955) and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), and the artists of the 21st century.
Regular exhibitions have shown major artists on the international contemporary scene at the Marc Chagall National Museum, such as the artist duo Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige (2018), the video artist and filmmaker Clément Cogitore (2019), the visual artist Cécile Bart (2021) or the photographer Olivier Roller (2022).

In 2023, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the museum's creation, the exhibition Chagall and me! invites contemporary personalities (artists, writers, dancers, musicians, etc.) to share their contemporary interpretation of these paintings. To find out more
