Since 2002, the Musées nationaux of XX^th century in the Alpes-Maritimes have placed contemporary art at the heart of their artistic and cultural programs: building bridges between the three iconic avant-garde art masters - Marc Chagall (1887-1985), Fernand Léger (1881-1955) and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) - and XXI^st century artists. Cécile Bart's exhibition is part of this series of invitations and resonates with the exhibition Marc Chagall. Le Passeur de lumière, devoted to the painter's stained glass windows, which will take place from 18 September 2021 to 10 January 2022.

The artist has been given carte blanche : as a painter of light, color and movement, Cécile Bart presents a series of pieces, most of which have been specially designed for the occasion. Playing with the spaces of the museum, she installs her artworks, both harsh and delicate. They are often thought in resonance with the monumental creations of Marc Chagall, in particular with the stained glass windows The Creation of the World, bathing the concert hall in blue light.

The title of her exhibition, Je suis bleue, is the feminized version of an emblematic phrase by Marc Chagall who identified with this color. In addition to the blues of the great colorist, Cécile Bart has focused on the infinite subtleties of the Vitebsk painter's palette, on the rich transparencies of his stained-glass windows, but also on the many characters in weightlessness in the master's paintings. Cécile Bart takes up the challenge of echoing certain aspects of Marc Chagall's work, without leaving the field of abstraction.

This exhibition was organised with the support of the Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré, in Tours, the Frac Franche-Comté, in Besançon, and the Galerie Catherine Issert, in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
